PANIAI - After the Free Papua Organization (OPM) shot at unarmed and innocent civilian, namely Rusli, on Tuesday, 11 June 2024, in Paniai Regency, Central Papua Province, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) continued to chase the OPM. The shooting incident of the late Rusli, accompanied by the burning of his vehicle, was carried out by the OPM led by Undius Kogoya in the Paniai Timur District, which is located next to the Bibida District.
After the firefight between the Indonesian Joint Security Forces (APKAM) and the OPM, while the process of evacuating the late Rusli's body was underway, the OPM was successfully repulsed and fled towards the Bibida District. After the evacuation process was successfully carried out, TNI continued their chasing of the OPM led by Undius Kogoya as the perpetrators of the shooting and car burning.
On Friday, 14 June 2024, TNI soldiers who were chasing the OPM in the Bibida succeeded in reclaiming the Bibida District area which had been controlled by the OPM. The success in reclaiming the Bibida area was also followed by the success of TNI Soldiers in finding several munitions and rifle equipments belong to the OPM. These results were found by TNI Soldiers in the middle of the Bibida District area, and were allegedly left behind as a result of the OPM fleeing from the chase of the Soldiers.
"The success of TNI Soldiers in reclaiming the Bibida District area which has been controlled by the OPM, is the TNI's effort to create a safe and conducive situation in the Papua region. Furthermore, the TNI will continue to chase the OPM that is responsible for killing and burning the innocent civilian, " said the Commanding General of the KOGABWILHAN III, Lt. Gen. Richard T.H. Tampubolon, after reclaiming the Bibida District area.
